Idaho Electrical Continuing Education Required: As of 2025, CE is no longer a requirement for renewing a Master or Journeyman Electrician license in Idaho. Reach out to the state board directly for more details regarding this rule change.

Idaho Electrical License Renewal: Per statute 54-1008:

  • Licenses for master electricians, residential electricians, journeyman electricians, and limited electrical installers are valid for three (3) years, expiring three years from the licensee’s birthday unless renewed, suspended, or revoked.
  • Electrical contractor and limited electrical contractor licenses are valid for two (2) years, expiring two years from the licensee’s birthday unless renewed, suspended, or revoked.
  • Electrical apprentice registrations are granted for two (2) year terms. Apprentice licenses cannot be issued for more than five (5) consecutive two (2) year periods.

All completed CE hours are reported to the state on your behalf. Submissions to the state are processed each Thursday.
