Montana Continuing Education Requirement: License holders in Montana must complete 16 hours of continuing education, with at least 8 of those hours certified as covering NEC updates.
Note: New licensees who recently graduated from an approved apprenticeship program are exempt from CE requirements for their first renewal cycle only. This exemption does not extend to licensees upgrading from journeyman or residential status to a higher license level — they must still complete the full hour requirement.
License Renewal: Montana licenses renew on a 2-year cycle, falling on even-numbered years, with a renewal window running between May 15 and July 15.
Questions about your state’s continuing education requirements should be directed to your state board.
